40 years together...

A woman awakes during the night to find that her
husband was not in their bed. She puts on her robe
and goes downstairs to look for him.

She finds him sitting at the dining room table with
a cup of coffee in front of him. He appears deep in
thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he
wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of coffee.

"What's the matter, dear?" she whispers as she steps
into the room. "Why are you down here at this time
of night?"

The husband looks up, "Do you remember 40 years ago
when we were dating, and you were only 18?" he asks
solemnly. The wife is touched to tears thinking that
her husband is so caring and sensitive.

"Yes, I do," she replies.

The husband pauses. The words are not coming easily.
"Do you remember when your mother caught us behind
the couch making love?"

"Yes, I remember." says the wife, lowering herself
into a chair beside him.

The husband continues..."Do you remember when she
shoved a shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you
marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for
40 years?'"

"I remember that, too." she replies softly.

He wipes another tear from his cheek and says
"I would have gotten out today."

Stella awards

The "Stella" awards rank up there with the Darwin
awards. Stella Liebeck is the 81 year old lady who
spilled coffee on herself and sued McDonalds.

This case inspired an annual award: The "Stella"
Award - for the most frivolous lawsuits in the U. S.

The following are this year's candidates:

1. January 2000: Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas
was awarded $780,000 by a jury of her peers after
breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was
running inside a furniture store. The owners of the
store were understandably surprised at the verdict,
considering the misbehaving little brat was
Ms. Robertson's son.

2. June 1998: A 19 year old Carl Truman of
Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical expenses when
his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord.
Mr. Truman apparently didn't notice there was
someone at the wheel of the car, when he was trying
to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.

3. October 1998: A Terrence Dickson of Bristol,
Pennsylvania was leaving a house he had just
finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not
able to get the garage door to go up since the
automatic door opener was malfunctioning.
He couldn't re-enter the house because the door
connecting the house and garage locked when he
pulled it shut.
The family was on vacation. Mr. Dickson found
himself locked in the garage for eight days.
He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found, and a
large bag of dry dog food. He sued the homeowner's
insurance claiming the situation caused him undue
mental anguish. The jury agreed to the tune of half
a million dollars.

4. October 1999: Jerry Williams of Little Rock,
Arkansas was awarded $14,500 and medical expenses
after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door
neighbor's beagle. The beagle was on a chain in its
owner's fenced-in yard. The award was less than
sought because the jury felt the dog might have been
just a little provoked at the time by Mr. Williams
who was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun.
(The Beagle is a breed of small to medium-sized dog)

5. May 2000: A Philadelphia restaurant was ordered
to pay Amber Carson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania
$113,500 after she slipped on a soft drink and broke
her coccyx (commonly referred to as the tailbone,
is the final segment of the human vertebral column)
The beverage was on the floor because Ms. Carson
threw it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during
an argument.

6. December 1997: Kara Alton of Claymont, Delaware
successfully sued the owner of a night club in a
neighboring city when she fell from the bathroom
window to the floor and knocked out her two front
teeth. This occurred while Ms. Walton was trying to
sneak through the window in the ladies room to avoid
paying the $3.50 cover charge. She was awarded
$12,000 and dental expenses.

And the winner is:
Mr. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City.
In November 2000 Mr. Grazinski purchased a brand new
32 foot Winnebago motor home. On his first trip home,
having joined the freeway, he set the cruise control
at 70 mph and calmly left the drivers seat to go
into the back and make himself a cup of coffee.
Not surprisingly, the Winnie left the freeway,
crashed and overturned. Mr. Grazinski sued
Winnebago for not advising him in the handbook that
he couldn't actually do this.

He was awarded $1,750,000 plus a new Winnie.
(Winnebago actually changed their handbooks on the
back of their court case, just in case there are
any other complete morons buying their vehicles).

more surprises (awards) next year...

microwave!

microwave warning:

A 26-year old man decided to have a cup of coffee.
He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave
to heat it up (something that he had done numerous
times before).

I am not sure how long he set the timer for, but he
wanted to bring the water to a boil. When the timer
shut the oven off, he removed the cup from the oven.
As he looked into the cup, he noted that the water
was not boiling, but suddenly the water in the cup
"blew up" into his face.

The cup remained intact until he threw it out of his
hand, but all the water had flown out into his face
due to the build up of energy. His whole face is
blistered and he has 1st and 2nd degree burns to his
face which may leave scarring.

He also may have lost partial sight in his left eye.
While at the hospital, the doctor who was attending
to him stated that this is a fairly common occurrence
and water (alone) should never be heated in a
microwave oven. If water is heated in this manner,
something should be placed in the cup to diffuse the
energy such as a wooden stir stick, tea bag, etc.,
(nothing metal).

It is however a much safer choice to boil the water
in a tea kettle.

*General Electric's [GE] Response: *

=Thanks for contacting us, I will be happy to assist you.
The e-mail that you received is correct. Micro waved water
and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach the
boiling point. They can actually get superheated and not
bubble at all. The superheated liquid will bubble up out
of the cup when it is moved or when something like a spoon
or tea bag is put into it.

To prevent this from happening and causing injury,
do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup.
After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for
thirty seconds! before moving it or adding anything
into it.

Here is what our local science teacher had to say on the matter:
"Thanks for the microwave warning. I have seen this happen before.
It is caused by a phenomenon known as super heating. It can occur
anytime water is heated and will particularly occur if the vessel
that the water is heated in is new, or when heating a small amount
of water (less than half of a cup).

What happens is that the water heats faster than the vapor bubbles
can form. If the cup is very new then it is unlikely to have small
surface scratches inside it that provide a place for the bubbles to
form. As the bubbles cannot form and release some of the heat has
built up, the liquid does not boil, and the liquid continues to heat
up well past its boiling point.

What then usually happens is that the liquid is bumped or jarred,
which is just enough of a shock to cause the bubbles to rapidly
form and expel the hot liquid. The rapid formation of bubbles is
also why a carbonated beverage spews when opened after having been
shaken."

If you pass this on you could very well save someone from a lot of
pain and suffering

90/10 principle

Have you read this before.. ?

Discover the 90/10 Principle. It will change your life
(at least the way you react to situations).

What is this principle?

10% of life is made up of what happens to you.

90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean?
We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us.
We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be
late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may
cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%.
The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.

Let's use an example:

You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks
over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control
over what just what happened. What happens when the next will be
determined by how you react.

**You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup
over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your
spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of
the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs & change
your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy
crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school.
She misses the bus.

Your spouse must leave immediately for work.

You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school.
Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed
limit. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away,
you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without
saying goodbye.

After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your
briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to
get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home, When you
arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your
spouse and daughter.

**Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have
a bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?
B) Did your daughter cause it?
C) Did the policeman cause it?
D) Did you cause it?

**The answer is " D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee.
How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day.
Here is what could have and should have happened.

**Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry.
You gently say, "It's ok honey, you just need, to be more careful next
time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt
and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the
window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves.

You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss
comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended
different.

**Why? Because of how you REACTED.
You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens.
The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle.
If someone says something negative about you, don't be a sponge.
Let the attack roll off like water on glass.

You don't have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly
and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing
a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse. Now you
know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the
results. You will lose nothing if you try it.

The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this
principle. The result? Millions of people are suffering from
undeserved stress, trials, problems and heartache.

We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

*******************************************************

Another 90/10 principle:

A chinese friend once told me that:
"friend, if you earn one peso spend only ten (10) centavo.
Keep the ninety (90) centavo..."

I repied: " Ahhh!... so that was it?"
"I thought Spend 90 keep the ten cents could make me richer"

Actually I spend more than I earned, -thru lending.

Coffee mug...

Coffee Mug Redesigning

Sometimes modern designers make changes in the things that
at first sight do not need to be improved. But generally
afterwards many of those innovations turn out to be useful
enough. So it would probably be better if we tried, at least
from time to time, not to draw hasty conclusions.

Thus it's hardly possible that there is someone who thinks that
a coffee mug needs redesigning, yet Jinhong Lin has quite a different
opinion about it. To understand better his idea ponder for a moment
how the liquid moves from the mug into our mouth.

There is a kind of a bridge formed by our lips and the edges of the mug.
So why not make these two parts of the "bridge" fit well. Lin's mug has a
curved edge to better trace our lips while we get our coffee.

Despite the insignificance of the changes to the coffee mug design
proposed by Lin, it's not a bad idea. Who knows maybe after some
time such coffee mugs will replace usual ones.

Yuno PC - Coffee mug that gives you all the info

The lack of time is one of the most serious problems that we encounter everyday.

To solve this problem people generally try to do two or even more actions simultaneously, yet it's not an easy task. That's why at present there is a great variety of multifunctional devices. However, given gadget despite the abundance of 2in1 concepts represents an absolutely innovational device.
This novelty was designed by Jason Farsai and was called Yuno PC.

The Yuno PC is a new personal computer concept designed to help you use your time as efficient as possible without the necessity to bring your meal near your computer. Everyone has their own routine, what they read, watch, listen to, and of course drink. The Yuno PC mug incorporates all the important morning alerts such as weather, time, traffic, stocks, and etc. on its touchscreen display.

Moreover there is a possibility to choose your own images to be displayed as a screensaver. In other words it lets you enjoy the morning the way you deserve, stress free and highly efficient. In addition this gadget has quite an attractive design and is big enough to ensure clear and comfortable usage of its touch-sensitive display.

Thus this device seems to be very useful. Nevertheless I think that it will probably be a bit strange, at least in the beginning, to use this portable PC that has a cylindrical display because you will always need to rotate it. Yet its compactness and functionality can be considered as significant advantages in comparison with other devices of this kind.

Adversity...

Few years ago, a daughter complained to her father
that her life was miserable and that she didn't know
how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting
and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one
problem was solved, another one soon followed.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen.
He filled three pots with water and placed each on
a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil,
he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot
and ground coffee beans in the third pot.

He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to
his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited,
wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes he turned
off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed
them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.
He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup.

Turning to her, he asked. "Daughter, what do you see?"

"Potatoes, eggs, and coffee," she hastily replied.

"Look closer", he said, "and touch the potatoes."

She did and noted that they were soft.

He then asked her to take an egg and break it.
After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee.
Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.
"Father, what does this mean?" she asked.

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans
had each faced the same adversity-the boiling water.

However, each one reacted differently.

The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting,
but in boiling water, it became soft and weak.

The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its
liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water.
Then the inside of the egg became hard.

However, the ground coffee beans were unique.
After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water
and created something new.

"Which one are you," he asked his daughter.
"When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond?

Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

In life, things happen around us,
things happen to us, but the only thing
that truly matters is what happens within us.

Which one are you? When problems come (and they will)
how will we react?

Will they make us weak, hard hearted or will they cause us
to change into something worthwhile?

Think about it...

"Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be."

Test...

Imagine yourself with a friend in a cafe'
(coffee shop). Your friend has just ordered a
cappuccino, which you were thinking of
ordering. So what would you do now?

*a) "I'll have the same."
-
*b) "Me too."
-
*c) "Make that two."
-
*d) "I'll have an ice tea."
(Or any other completely different drink.)
-
*e) "Cappuccino."

Pick your answers instinctively, then scroll down
for what each statement means.

This is a personality test.

There are no right or wrong answers.

"I'll have the same."
You are a very easy going person.
You rarely refuse your friends when
they come to you for help.
Occasionally, it may be more wise for you
to say "NO" sometimes.
This might save you from unnecessary trouble.

"Me too."
You are an indecisive person.
And the reason for that might be
because you think more than others!
Sometimes you should just go for it, otherwise,
you might find yourself missing out on a lot of
opportunities that would eventually lead you to success.

"Make that two."
You have a strong will.
You want to be in control of others.
Although you do not show this,
you have a hidden desire to be better than
everyone who surrounds you.

"I'll have an ice tea."
(Or any other completely different drink.)
You are extremely competitive and not afraid to show it.
You will never settle for second best.
However, you should be careful of your actions,
as others may feel uncomfortable because of your
stubborn nature to win at all costs.

"Cappuccino."
Stubborn is the best word to describe you.
You will not give in to anything once your mind is set.
You live by your own rules, and damn the consequences.
But to many people, you are just a hard-headed
person with little consideration to others.

Law Of...

(Rules for which reasons are not-known...)

Very interesting.

Just enjoy the accuracy of these rules.

*Law of Mechanical Repair:
After your hands become coated with grease,
your nose will begin to itch.
(as i know this one)

*Law of the Workshop:
Any tool, when dropped, will roll to
the least accessible corner.

*Telephone Conundrum:
When you dial a wrong number,
you never get an engaged one.

*Law of the ALIBI
If you use the excuse that you were late for
work because you had a flat tire, the next morning
you will actually have a flat tire.
(find something else)

*Law of QUEUE:
If you change queues, the one you have left will
start to move faster than the one you are in now.

*Bell's Theorem:
As soon as the body is immersed fully in the bathtub,
or the shower at full blast, the cellphone will ring.

*Principle of Close Encounters:
The probability of meeting someone you know increases
when you are in a situation where you do not want to be
seen by anybody. (si Bombay n n'man)

*Law of the RESULT:
When you try to prove to the repairman that
a machine doesn't work, it will.

*Law of Biomechanics:
The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the
reachability of the area.

*Theater Rule:
At any event, the people whose seats are furthest
from the aisle arrive last.

*Law on weight loss:
When you have a 50 gram bar of Chocolate you will put on
1 Kilogramme of weight on your hips.

*Coffee Law:
As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee,
your boss will ask you to do something which will last
until the coffee is cold.

*Office Law:
When you are working late, the boss will never be around.
When you are surfing the net the boss will always drop by.

Probably old, Right?

But still enjoyable.

Thought you had experienced almost all of them.

That rules however, always Works..... Trust me.

Salty Coffee

He met her on a party.

She was so outstanding, many guys chasing after her,
while he was so normal, nobody paid attention to him.
At the end of the party, he invited her to have coffee with him,
she was surprised, but due to being polite, she promised.

They sat in a nice coffee shop, he was too nervous to say anything,
she felt uncomfortable, she thought, please, let me go home....
suddenly he asked the waiter.
"would you please give me some salt?
I'd like to put it in my coffee."

Everybody stared at him, so strange!
His face turned red, but still,
he put the salt in his coffee and drank it.

She asked him curiously; why you have this hobby?

He replied: "when I was a little boy, I was living near the sea,
I like playing in the sea, I could feel the taste of the sea,
just like the taste of the salty coffee.
Now every time I have the salty coffee,
I always think of my childhood,
think of my hometown, I miss my hometown so much,
I miss my parents who are still living there".

While saying that tears filled his eyes. She was deeply touched.
That's his true feeling, from the bottom of his heart.
A man who can tell out his homesickness,
he must be a man who loves home,
cares about home, has responsibility of home.

Then she also started to speak, spoke about her faraway hometown,
her childhood, her family. That was a really nice talk,
also a beautiful beginning of their story.

They continued to date.

She found that actually he was a man who meets all her demands;
he had tolerance, was kind hearted, warm, careful.
He was such a good person but she almost missed him!
Thanks to his salty coffee!

Then the story was just like every beautiful love story , the princess
married to the prince, then they were living the happy life...

*And, every time she made coffee for him, she put some
salt in the coffee, she knew that's the way he liked it.

*After 40 years, he passed away, left her a letter which said:

"My dearest,

please forgive me, forgive my whole life lie.

This was the only lie I said to you---the salty coffee.

Remember the first time we dated? I was so nervous at that time,

actually I wanted some sugar, but slip of the tongue I said salt.

It was hard for me to change so I just went ahead.

I never thought that could be the start of our communication!

I tried to tell you the truth many times in my life,

but I was too afraid to do that,

as I have promised not to lie to you for anything.

Now I'm dying, I afraid of nothing so I tell you the truth:

I don't like the salty coffee, what a strange bad taste..

But I have had the salty coffee for my whole life!

Since I knew you, I never feel sorry for anything I do for you.

Having you with me is my biggest happiness for my whole life.

If I can live for the second time, still want to know you and have you

for my whole life, even though I have to drink the salty coffee again"....

Her tears made the letter totally wet.

Someday, someone asked her:

what's the taste of salty coffee?

"It's sweet." She replied.

Love is not to forget but to forgive,

not to see but to understand,

not to hear but to listen,

not to let go but to HOLD ON !!!!

(Who can make a salty coffee for me,..... anyone?)

Two Cups

A professor stood before his Philosophy class
and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly,
he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.
He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles
and poured them into the jar.He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.
He then asked the students again if the jar was full.

They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand
and poured it into the jar. Of course,
the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full.

The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from
under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar,
effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
"I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life".

"The golf balls are the important things -
your God, family, your children, your health, your friends,
and your favorite passions -
things that if everything else was lost
and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job,
your house, and your car.

The sand is everything else--the small stuff.

If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued,
"there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.
If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

-Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

-Play with your children.

-Take time to get medical checkups.

-Take your partner out to dinner.

-Play another 18.

-There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

-Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter.

-Set your priorities.

-The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,

there's always room for a cup of coffee with a friend."
